Using an Electric Fence for Horses

By Farm Supply Store

If you own horses, you most likely have their best interest in mind at all times. For one thing, they’re a rather expensive animal, so you want to make sure they’re taken care of at all times and live a nice long life. However, most of us tend to think of our horses much like a lot of people think of their dogs. That’s why we take their safety so seriously.

Farmsupply2This is why it can be so hard for many people to consider using an electric fence for these animals. No matter what, horse fencing is essential. You need to keep them from running far from your property and hurting themselves. At the same time, you want to keep large predators on the other side of your property too.

With an electric fence tester, you can always make sure the voltage you’re using is enough to accomplish both safely. You don’t have to worry about predators getting in, but you also won’t have to worry about your horses hurting themselves. Usually, after they make contact with it once, they’ll never want to do it again, but they won’t have any serious injuries either.

So don’t let your horses get hurt; use an electric fence for their own protection.

Tips on Buying a New Garage Door

Garage DoorWhen you look for a new garage door, there are several different factors that you need to consider before purchasing one. Approaching the process can be confusing at first but here are some tips to get you started.

The Insulation Factor

Garages aren’t known to retain a lot of heat. Today’s doors have improved and now include better insulation techniques. Not only do they protect from the elements, but they also keep the temperature inside cool which makes for a more comfortable environment.

Consider what direction your door is facing also. If it’s directly facing the sun, you would be better off purchasing an insulated door for its temperature regulation.

Make Sure Your Garage Door Protects You

If you live in an area where hurricanes or natural disasters can happen, you would want as much reinforcement as possible. On the market there are storm-ready garage doors that have a reinforcement system built into it.

When you purchase a quality garage door, most of the time it will come with the installation of a garage door opener so you do not need to worry about a separate purchase.

How Much Does A Garage Door Cost?

Depending on the size of your garage and the quality of materials put in to your door, you can expect to pay in between $700 to $1600. If you are looking for an automatic door opener, tack on another $300. This is not including contractor costs or taxes.

Look around for different contractors offering you a better deal. It would be best to get multiple quotes and narrow down your options based on quality of work and professionalism.

Why You Should Choose Artificial Grass Over Other Grass Alternatives

artificial-grass

Written By: Better Backyards

More people than ever before are opting to either build their new homes without natural grass lawns or to replace their existing grass lawns with alternative lawn options. There are plenty of good reasons why people will choose an option such as artificial grass instead of natural grass. In areas where droughts are common, removing natural grass can save the environment and reduce water bills. Removing natural grass also creates a lawn that is easy to care for and always looks great.

Artificial grass is just one alternative to natural grass. Other choices can include gravel, dirt or even concrete. While these are all options that are easier to maintain and more water efficient than natural grass, in most cases they don’t make as much sense as an artificial turf installation. There are several reasons to select artificial turf over other types of grass alternatives:

Aesthetics: Removing your natural grass doesn’t mean your lawn can’t be green. In fact, you can ensure that you have a green and lush lawn year-round with artificial grass.

Heat Reduction: Gravel and cement get very hot over the summer. It can act as a heat sink and certainly isn’t fun to walk on barefoot. Newer types of artificial turf are designed to be cool to the touch.

Safety: Gravel and rocks create choking hazards for small kids along with unstable footing that can lead to falls and twisted ankles. A properly installed artificial turf lawn is free from divots or holes that can lead to dangerous conditions.

The Guide to Home Gardening

Establishing a home garden proves not only therapeutic for the person doing the gardening, but also for every person living in the house. Since gardens are full of fresh flowers, plants, trees, thick green grass and other outdoor decorations, it is a good place for meditation and relaxation. Some invest much on their patio, especially those who love outdoor barbeque and retreat activities with friends.

To start and or enhance a garden, it is necessary to consider the space and design of the garden. The amount and type of decorations to be used depends on the size of the area that will be developed. The design tells how much an ideal garden would cost. And contrary to many beliefs, putting up an elegant garden need not be expensive. What is only needed is creativity, a little bit of cash, and practical design. [Read more…]

Outdoor Projects Around the House

At-Home-Outside_Bohemian-Emily-Henderson-Drilling-Wash-Tub-Planters_s4x3.jpg.rend.hgtvcom.1280.960

Winter is fast approaching, which means you only have a month or two to get some last minute projects done around the back yard. There are a few preparations to be made before the coldest weather hits, and you can set yourself up for spring time if you act fast.

Before you get started, assemble your tools. You will need basic gardening tools like a shovel, rake, hoe, a hammer with a box of nails, a screwdriver, and carpenter’s glue (if you can find some). Once you’re ready, read on for a list of tasks to get started.

Build a Garden

You can build a raised garden in time for winter, and you can even grow a few veggies if you act fast. Planting crops like onions now will yield a harvest in time for winter, so you can flavor soups and stews to warm up the family. You’ll need to lay out some thick beams of wood and nail them down with railroad spikes. Use Kawasaki power drills to connect the beams by brackets, so you have a rectangle. Fill it with nutrient rich soil and your above ground garden is ready to go.

Build a Shed

Sheds you can assemble yourself aren’t too hard to build, although it does take longer than a day to build one if you’re an amateur. It all begins with foundation, which you must grade the yard for. It’s a big job, but a worthwhile one if you plan to store tools and furniture outside. Since most of us don’t have enough room for a dining room set and a patio set, it’s a good idea to consider a shed if you live in an area that experiences four seasons.

Once your shed is built, give the hinges on the door a squirt from a grease gun to keep them from rusting over. You may also want to give the track a coating as well, so that the door easily slides.

Landscaping Tips

One of the best things you can do for your yard is redo your drainage. Bore some holes in the brick walls that hold your garden, and build a small hill below the space you plan to raise your garden. This will prevent mold from growing, and give your garden a chance to thrive well after winter.

Also, don’t forget to cover your garden to prevent what is already grown from freezing over.

Artificial Grass Is a Perfect Solution for People with Allergies

Article written by Artificial Turf Supply Commercial & Residential Division.

It’s easy to assume that having a healthy looking natural grass lawn will help you to feel healthy as well. However, for millions of Americans, the smell of fresh-cut lawn is anything but healthy. For many people with seasonal allergies, grass is a major problem. Breathing in grass pollen can leading to running noses, itchy eyes and in some severe cases asthma attacks. Being exposed directly to grass can also cause itching and hives.

So what can you do if you want to have a green lawn but are allergic to grass? Switching to synthetic grass is a great solution. An artificial turf lawn has the major advantage of having no grass pollens whatsoever. Simply put, you can enjoy an artificial grass lawn year-round without ever having to worry about your allergies acting up. You also don’t need to go outside in the spring and do mowing and other yard work that can cause your allergies to flare up since synthetic turf never needs mowing or edging.

Reducing allergy problems is just one of the potential health advantages of switching to fake grass. Since you never need to worry about using pesticides or artificial fertilizers with artificial grass, you’ll also never have to worry about harmful chemicals getting into your system. According to the Centers for Disease Control, the average person has 13 different kinds of pesticides inside of their body. These have been picked up through years of contact with lawns, gardens and more. Moving to a synthetic lawn eliminates a major point of potential pesticide contamination.
